Aditya Birla Capital Digital's (ABCD) mobile application was subjected to a significant cyber breach, resulting in the unauthorized sale of digital gold worth approximately ₹1.95 crore from 435 customer accounts. The incident was detected on June 9 when several users noticed unapproved gold transactions and reached out to the firm’s helpline .
Following the alert, ABCD’s technical team initiated an internal investigation and promptly filed a police complaint with the Central Cyber Police. Affected user accounts were subsequently restored, with the stolen amounts replenished.
The attack was traced to a compromised application programming interface (API) that enabled the hacker to bypass mandatory OTP verification and execute unauthorized sales. ABCD temporarily disabled the digital gold selling feature to prevent further losses and has since patched the vulnerability.
ABCD officials confirmed that both the digital gold services and overall platform security have been fully restored. The company is collaborating with CERT-In, cyber insurance providers, and law enforcement to reinforce security measures and complete the ongoing investigation
